Why I'm choosing to give:
Because it's what feels right and GOOD! I gave away a lot of STUFF when I got very ill. Now that I'm healing, it's a continuous reminder to keep letting go and to heal through serving others.
What I'd most like to receive:
Hugs. Good advice. Mentoring. Referrals for my business.
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?
From the woman herself - Cami!
About me:
Holistic Health and Nutrition Counselor; ex-management consultant. Left behind the MBA lifestyle after my health crisis and I now help busy professionals and others protect their health when living with stress or heal after major health upsets. I love what I do, which is what I was meant to do... I live and practice in San Francisco, but work with clients all over the world.

Personally, I'm a combination left- and right-brained creative geek who likes to dance and socialize sometimes, and be quiet and reflective other times. I've lived and traveled around the world. I am grateful to the many beautiful friends and healers in my life who have given me so much and I am ready now - more than ever - to give back.

When you think you've run out...

...trust me, you still have lots to give!

My husband and I (after 5 years of me cajoling him) went back through our closets and found SIX more garbage bags-full of clothes and goodies to give away. And I had given away that much already two years ago. We're not even big shoppers, nor do we have big closets. I had t-shirts from high school and pants from 10 years ago I was still keeping!!!

Now I intend to donate my bridesmaid's dress from this weekend to the following… Continue

Days 8-15

Posted on April 18, 2008 at 4:00pm 7 Comments

I've been working through some weird fear issues around money lately. "Weird" because I'm not certain where they stem from. Maybe it has something to do with my former six-figure salary vanishing in smoke as my health decided to crash a while ago. And the medical bills that piled up soon thereafter. Hmmm. Need to sit with that one for a while. Oh wait, I have been. Never mind.

But in the meantime, I chose to give in a manner that will help me be more at peace with that fear. For the… Continue

Days 3-7

Posted on April 9, 2008 at 7:24pm 0 Comments

On days 3 & 4, I gave myself permission to rest. Harder than it sounds. Easier because I saw my husband for the first time in 3 weeks and I had a wonderful reason to block out everything else.

Days 5-6-7, I tried to be understanding and give in to the vagaries of construction / plumbing work. Is that giving? I felt like it was, given it took every ounce of my usually-very-calm self not to give the contractor a piece of my (very angry) mind instead.

Simla, I hope that your health has continued to improve, that the bills are reducing, and that the approach of spring brings you new energies and enthusiasms.

I haven't posted for quite some time so hello again.

While I haven't posted, that doesn't mean I'm not giving. This movement, this inspiration has shifted my way of being conscious of what I give every day, throughout the day. I can honestly say that I've given something every day. Even on days I first think I haven't, I've at least given my love and encouragement to my spouse.

On days that I am cooped up at home and can't seem to step outside (I work from home), I do feel cloistered - sometimes in a welcome way, sometimes in an unhealthy way - and cut off from the world. I do need a few of those days, days when I give to myself to replenish, or focus, or reconnect with myself. It's the other days, however, when I build in some "slow" time, when I'm not rushing around, when I can have a genuine, present conversation and give more to the outside world that I feel gratefully alive.

Some things I've given recently:
- lots of $ tips
- apologies
- benefit of the doubt
- forgiveness
- space
- respect despite a difference in opinion
- my advice
- my time
- my undivided attention
- my kindness
- clothes and book donations
- home cooked meal to a pregnant friend
- free professional advice
- my thanks
- my smile
- several referrals out to trusted partners

I feel happy. That's the best gift I've gotten back.

Hi Simla,
Just watned to let you know if you want to start posting your give stories in your blog, you can. I finally figured out how to get a blogroll on the main page so the recent posts are coming up there now. Let me know if you need help with the blog feature. It works the same way as the discussion feature so is easy to use...
