Day 13 - Patience and Guerrila Warfare

A run down of this week's gifts:I stopped by and introduced myself to the owner of the new shop beneath my apartment. It just opened a few weeks ago, and it doesn't seem to be attracting much foot traffic. I wanted to welcome her to the neighborhood and make her day a little less quiet. I tend to avoid meeting new people unless I'm supremely caffeinated and/or need to for work purposes, so it was a nice thing to do with my day.Guerilla warfare-style: Had a meeting at a coffee-shop. After the…See More

Day 8 - I didn't yell at my father.

Yesterday I got into an argument with my dad. No biggie, my dad and I are pretty honest with each other and I was irritated and I told him, thus setting off his irritation and long story short, he revealed that he was frustrated because he feels he doesn't have anybody to talk to about his Big Ideas. My dad is retired, 76, lives alone (which he prefers) but the only people he talks to on a regular basis are my brother and I. He does a lot of research during his day, he writes pages and pages of…See More

Bringing friends together

The past two days (days six and seven?) have been a joy - this is an extension of my earlier post, "Shoot me", where I approached a friend about doing a headshot session with me. A gift given - helping him build his portfolio, and a gift received, free headshots! We are very excited to collaborate.Yesterday I extended the gift of business connections to my friend Jen, who is a wonderful make-up artist. We were waitresses together at a local bar, and I called her and asked her if she can work on…See More

Day 5 - Shoot me

Okay - today was a very rough day. Loud. Loud rough day. I was struggling to even think of giving a gift. One of the days where I had to think backwards to see if there was even a small moment where I was nice.So - at the end of the day, here's what it came down to. I decided to trust a friend professionally. I needed new headshots done (I'm an actor). A good friend and former student is starting up a headshot business, and I kind of have been avoiding his hints so that I could go to a more…See More

Letters are wonderful gifts and don't even have to say much. I often get a pretty card from my son with just a few words. But they mean that he is thinking of me. It is hard to get back into the habit, so good for you!.

Shortribs and Such - Days 2 and 3

The past two days I find myself making choices that are not altogether unusual for me to make...which makes me think that taking part in a 29-Day Giving Challenge helps you become more mindful of consequences, whether they are good or bad. They also help you put into focus the relationships involved in the exchange of said gifts.Yesterday I spent all day on a plane. Thinking ugly thoughts about the people I was sitting next to. Yeah, you've done it. Tried so many ways to think of gifts that I…See More

Day 1 - Professional Recommendation

Alright, day 1 down, which kind of exploded from something small to something big rather quickly. An old friend and student of mine who has moved to the city left a facebook message looking for some job leads. First step, I posted a note on his site about a jobs listing website that he might find useful. Then I realized he deserved more, so I send him the info for my agent and told him to write a cover letter mentioning that I referred him. Yup. Then I realized I was holding back, and I wrote…See More

Support our Cause of the Month
In November, we're sponsoring a cause that has been started by fellow giver, Lubabat. We are so deeply touched & impressed by Lubabat's strength of character & spirit. Lubabat was diagnosed with MS in the mid 90s & then in August of 09, she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Her reaction has been so inspirational - she is thriving through giving. She is hosting a Christmas Give & her theme is "going small to make a big impact" We have named her our November Cause of the Month & would be grateful for your support!

Happy giving!

P.S. Don't miss our handy 29-Day Giving Calendar or our cute Gift Note to accompany your gifts.
