ThanksGIVING!

Seems fitting to wrap up my 29 days of giving with Thanksgiving. Thanks to my sister, she made giving easy and made our holiday so much more special. As the host of the big dinner she always comes up with activities before the meal, and instead of random crafts and games the theme this year was giving. First there was a collection for Pennies for Peace, complete with the children's book on display and penny paper wrappers. She had asked family members to bring their pennies and the activity was…See More

Thanks Jana. I've suggested that they make a cut of the film that's less graphic just to get the message out and so people can appreciate the team involved. Mandy Rae Cruikshank is a world champion freediver who swam into the cove in the…

What a tremendous gift indeed. I don't believe I would have sat through it. If I were to have a "totem" it would be the Dolphin. I love them and some day hope to swim with them. So glad your husband is involved in this project and…

Joyce - they trap migrating dolphins to sell to water parks around the world. The dolphins that are not chosen, including calves, are killed in a secret cove and are sold to fish markets in Japan, sometimes under different food labels, since most…

What do they do with the dolphins after slaughter, amysue? Do they eat them?

Days 19-21 Witnessing horror in support of my husband

Sounds strange but that's how I spent my weekend and I'm so glad I did. My husband held two screenings of the documentary "The Cove" this weekend as a fundraiser for his non-profit, Ocean Alliance. The Cove is about a dolphin slaughter that has been secretly occurring in Japan every year. A film crew managed to risk their lives to film this slaughter so that the world could see and put a stop to it. My husband consulted the film crew and his partner, Dr. Roger Payne was featured in the film. He…See More

Amy, I understand the need for patience, my other thought when I get frustrated is that I need more compassion even when I don't understand where people are coming from because goodness knows there are probably a lot of times when others around…

Days 17 and 18 - Beautiful news!

Since my family have returned from their trip we've been getting back into our routines so my gifts have been patience and non-judgement, tough ones for me at times. There have also been lots of little notes and calls to friends but the EXCITING news was an email I received from my sister in law who runs the women and children's village we were collecting gifts for last week. The main project of the village is paper-making and card making, gorgeous creations, and she wanted to let us know that…See More

I'm also realizing how valuable time is. Sounds like you were really attentive and present which I'm sure meant a lot to your friend.

Day 16 - Connecting

Posted on November 18, 2009 at 5:00pm 3 Comments

After an intensive week of looking after a friend, today was a day of lots of little things. After shipping off my friend's belongings that wouldn't fit into her suitcase I tucked in a beautiful cashmere scarf that I had bought for myself, which I now realize would look better on her and make her happy. That was my physical give today.

The rest of the day I practiced opening my eyes to everyone around me. I spend so much time walking around with blinders on, just trying to get… Continue
