On Day 10, the obligations of the holiday season overwhelmed me and totally sapped my energy. Even though many presents were exchanged on Christmas morning, I felt removed from the giving and receiving experiences. I'm not sure that I my previous 9 days' gifts were whole-heartedly given with the proper intent either, so I've decided that I'm going to start over after life returns to "normal."

Gift Five - A Generous Tip
Last Friday, my daughters got out of school early and I took them out to lunch to celebrate the official start of their holiday vacation. I usually tip fairly generously, but on Friday I decided to give our waitress an extra-generous tip. I enjoyed the semi-stealthy quality of tipping generously, which means I probably need to work on face-to-face gifting.

Yesterday was my day to get over the desire for grand gestures. I spent my work day closed up in my office, trying to get work done before leaving for 2 weeks of vacation. I interacted with people very minimally, so my gifts for the day were small, behind-the-scenes kinds of gestures.
I've gotten most of my Christmas shopping done, but hadn't figure out what to get for my sister-in-law. Her husband, who is my husband's brother, was diagnosed with brain cancer 15 months ago…

This is a small gift. It was a spontaneous interaction with a stranger that can be the most rewarding kind of gift to give entirely because it's unexpected by everyone involved.
