Another small gift today. A close friend from college recently broke up with her partner of 3 years. Tonight she was getting back the keys to their old apartment and moving back in. She's a very strong person, but like all of us, she sometimes loses faith in herself. Today I let her know how much she means to me and how very strong she is, even when she doesn't see it. Today gave me the opportunity to finally give a gift I've been meaning to give for several months now. My cousin spent the beginning of this school year living with his father, a man who is not always kind. After much disagreement, my cousin decided to move back in with his mom and brother. My gift today was small. This past Christmas we adopted a 1 1/2 year old black lab from the shelter. She is incredibly sweet and incredibly well-trained, but it is clear that someone had beaten her badly before she came into our lives. I did not realize this at the time, but I believe we were meant to have her.
