Days Twenty-Eight & Twenty-Nine

Last Monday and Tuesday were my final days of the giving challenge and, yes, just now am I finding the time to record my gifts for those days. It'll be a quick summary and later I hope to come back with a post reflecting what I've learned and how I've grown throughout the challenge. Monday's gift was more time spent encouraging, supporting and listening to my fellow mom friend who's been having a tough time with her family's onslaught of illnesses this season.  I was also browsing around a…See More

Day Twenty-Seven

A fellow mom friend in my playgroup has two daughters, one who is three like my daughter, and another who is six months old.  We are not the closest of friends, but we enjoy each others company, and we have quite a bit in common.   She knows I plan to become a postpartum doula in the future, that I have had my babies at home with a midwife, that I have made a lot of alternative health choices which have made me pretty nonjudgmental and open minded, and that I'm a glutton for knowledge, so since…See More

Day Twenty-Six

On Saturday, my husband was attending an expo for parents, infants and children, to promote his Chiropractic Practice.  It was nearly a half hour away, but he really wanted the kids and I to swing by for a bit, so we did.  I brought him his lunch, and while he and Ella visited for a bit, Cameron and I walked past the various vendors. I struck up a conversation with a lovely Birth Doula, who happens to know the midwife I used for both of my home births.  I sung my midwife's praises and highly…See More

"Harmony, you are so right about being grateful as opposed to being resentful.  The mind, and its ability to alter perception, which then alters everything else, is an amazing thing!"

Day Twenty-Three

I called up a long time friend to wish him a happy birthday.  He didn't answer, so I sang the happy birthday song to his voicemail.  I'm sure it sounded terrible, but he's got a great sense of humor, so my hope is that it made him laugh and feel a little more special on his birthday. I would have called him anyway, but the gift of song was the 'above and beyond' part for today.  :-)

Day Twenty-Five

Posted on February 19, 2011 at 1:50pm 2 Comments

Yesterday's gifts consisted of a few small, kind gestures sprinkled throughout my day.  When picking up the little guy I watch from school yesterday, I made a point of flashing a big smile, saying goodbye to his teacher and wishing her a great weekend.  While driving to his house, I was stopped at a light and noticed an older gentleman petting his giant dog in the truck next to me.  He looked over at me, and I gave him a really big smile instead of just turning my head back to the red light…
