Regaining Momentum

Looking at my last post, I have not written in over a month. I accepted a job which has had me busy, busy, busy. Although I have not blogged about my gifting, I have five additional gifts to add to my current 12. But before I get to those, I'de like to recap my last gift which was setting up a blog to raise money for my friend Pete's medical treatment. I set the goal at $3000 and with one month have raised $7600.00! I had the help of two friends who sent out e-mails and made some phone calls…See More

Day 12 - A Blog for Pete

My 12th gift was creating a fundraising blog for my friend Pete. Pete has been suffering for years with Lyme Disease and is at a critical point. His extended family is no where to be found and his nuclear family is suffering greatly. To read more about Pete go to the provided link: http://www.forpetessakegive.blogspot.com/ . I have enlisted two friends and as a team we are getting the job done! Having the capacity to help and actually…See More

Day 11 - Postmortem

I know it sounds macabre and it was...at first. I was driving past the Mystic Graveyard when I experienced an uncharacteristic internal tug to drive through the triple arches. I must admit, I have always been intregued by abandoned houses and graveyards. They fill my viscera with peaceful nostalgia and infinite possibility of what life was and also, acceptence that everything peaks and declines. That personal dance with the dead has many hidden lessons but this was not what drew me to the…See More

10 Is The Magic Number

After my last trip to the beach, I decided to return with my oldest daughter Macie. She is going to be ten in ten days. I remember back when she was small and smiley and life was simple. She was a beauiful and easy going baby. She was healthy and so was I. Pondering those days brings a rush of emotion and tears. I sometimes let my mind wander back to that time so that I never forget how even in the worst of times we always have much more to be thankful for than we think. Macie's symptoms began…See More

How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?
North Stonington Wheeler Library
About me:
I am an artist and mother of two suffering from a painful case of chronic Lyme Disease and co-infections. My oldest daughter is suffering from the same. I am a compassionate and giving human being by nature and though this disease has been horrifying it also has brought me more spiritual solace and personal clarity than I have ever experienced. I guess you could call it the hidden gift. I am excited to begin and will report back my findings!
Do you agree to read and follow the 29Gifts Code of Conduct once you join our site?
Yes

On My Way...Day 1!

Today is my first day of giving formally. I am excited to get started! I was thinking about what exactly gift giving means to me and what response I wanted to elicit in the person recieving. Gift giving to me is an opportunity to create community. But giving can be tricky as well...good intent and thought needs to be infused in the gift for this to work. Along with meaning I have decided that I would like to elicit happiness, inspiration and or compassion with each gift. I am choosing my recipients and leaving a little wiggle room for surprise gifting.

I will let you in on a little foreshadowing...one of my favorite gifts I will be giving is to a good friend who is suffering with severe Lyme Disease. This disease can be seriously dehabilitating for some folks and for this man this is absolutely the case and then some. I would like to raise enough money for him to get him to his first visit to a specialist which can be quite expensive. We have a great community here and I am sure that I can do this in no time. Many people appreciate this man and the many gifts he brings to the table along with his loving family. So I will begin by making an appointment for him and use this date as a goal and will report back how this is all culminating.

I will also really focus on opening myself up to recieve through this process as well. Giving is the easy part for me...recieving is the challenge! So I am on my way to give my first gift right now to a dear neighborhood friend...here we go! Happy giving!
