29-Day Giving Challenge

29 baby blankets for 29 special families!

I started a group months ago called blankets4babies on here. At that time, I was trying to declutter my life as well as my house and had contacted a nearby Iowa hospital to see if they could use some blankets (in order to get rid of an abundance of yarn). An administrator at the hospital let me know that they were always in need of blankets for families who had lost their beloved angels. I had never really thought about it but, she said that often these families come in with nothing and then have nothing to wrap their babies up in and that a blanket makes a world of a difference. Thus, blankets4babies was created. There are now 10 members in the group...10 amazing, beautiful women. They knit, crochet, and sew adorable blankets. These members have never met but are most definitely united with a special bond. For me personally, this allows me to focus on something other than the personal trials and tribulatioins that I often think about daily. When I am knitting, I have no time to worry! Our first set of 29 blankets was delivered by me on Thursday to the hospital that began this journey. It is our hope that these blankets will make everyone who comes in contact with them know that we care and someday put a smile on their faces. I feel so very blessed and honored to have delivered the first 29 blankets to St. Lukes. Our next project is to a hospital which will be using some of the blankets in the NICU over the incubators and others to whatever they feel best.

Hi Ladies ..thanks for the support...Tamara 29 is the goal of our group so we all work together to make 29 for one place and then move onto another place...all the ladies ship their blankets to the head for that special job. The shipment can be written off on your taxes and if shipping isn't your thing you can always fine somewhere near your house so everyone could ship them to you...just make sure you have the space for 29 blankets :)!

Tamara - please feel free to suggest a pediatric hospital in your area to support and as a group, we'll make the blankets and send them to you for the drop off.

I'm waiting for a couple of callbacks here in Houston for an upcoming project myself.

Glad you're here!

A favorite blanket is a hug when we need it most. Thoe families who receive those blankets will know they can wrap themselves in love whenever it's needed. great job, ladies!

What a great idea! My son has been in and out of the hospital his whole life for a heart condition (he is 8) - and as an infant this would been so appreciated. I knit/ crochet...maybe I will try this. It will take awhile to make 29, but maybe I can look for helpers.....thanks for the inspiration.
