29-Day Giving Challenge

This morning I was looking through a flyer for the Vermont Country Store and saw the perfect gift for my Mom. It's not meant to be a Christmas gift, as I don't celebrate Christmas..... it's an "I Love You With All My Heart" gift. So I found myself taking advantage of a gorgeous sunny day after such horrid weather, and Tess and I drove to Weston Vermont which was a few hours away.

When we got there I immediately went to find it because it was so crowded with holiday shoppers. There was just one left in the color I wanted for my Mom..... bright, rose pink. I would never have chosen this color for her in the past and she certainly would not have either. It just feels right. She is so incredibly frail, confused and gloomy. I want her to be surrounded with cheerfulness somehow so the nurses will smile more with her. I hope the color is okay with her.

The Shawl itself is perfect! My Mom is barely able to move her body anymore. She is very stiff and the nurses cause discomfort when they dress her. This wonderfully soft and cuddly shawl has wrist cuffs so it will stay where it needs to yet it will allow the nurses to put it on her without raising her arms at all. I will bring it to her in pink tissue paper with a frilly ribbon tomorrow. It will hopefully help me to feel that My Mom is being loved and comforted when I can't be there......

Such a wonderful give Lotus. I love bright, happy colors as I call them!! Love soft material and I am sure she will love it more all the time.

I brought the wrapped gift to my Mom today. At first, in her confusion, she said she did not care for it and didn't want it. She kept on asking me why I brought it for her. Then, I gently took off the sweater she had on and put the pink snuggler shawl on her. It is the perfect style for those who are very frail and don't have range of motion in their arms. The color looked yummy on her and each time she asked me why I brought it I told her it was an "I Love You In Chanukah and every other day too" present. I helped her become aware of the incredible softness and then she finally eased up after I told her that if she did not want it that was okay. My Mom and I then had such a special time. She knew who I was and was able to talk with me more than in a long time. She kept looking right into my eyes saying "I Love You"....... What a gift for me!!! She then rested comfortably and cozy in her new shawl as I read to her from "The Adventures of Perrine", a special book given to her in 1932. It was such a special visit......

I also bought a box of stationary for Ana. It has a music box in the box of cards and envelopes. I have been looking for special stationary so I can address the envelopes and stamp them for her..... then all she needs to do is write to me and pop it in a mail box. The distance is so hard for both of us and my daughter is not helping to support communication at all. Due to my hearing issues the phone is very hard. Ana is soon to be eight and they don't have internet at their apartment. I'm hoping Ana and I will be able to connect in this way.....

The reality is that she is usually unaware of what she is wearing. If the nurses are prompted to smile at my Mom every time they see her wearing it, that gift will help my Mom.....
