A once in a lifetime race.

Yesterday, was marathon Sunday, which made for the highlight give of the day. Back in 1986, when I ran the race, there were approximately 20,000 people. Today, thre are over 30,000. Only the world class runners receive widespread recognition. The overwhelming majority are unknown greats, each with a story, of why they run.
I stood along fourth avenue in Brooklyn, and cheered for those in the back of the pack. Some were walking; some were joggly slowly. I became hoarse, while those I cheered on, lit up as bright, as the soon to be Christmas lights, that will be hung on homes near by. There was Mike, Rocky(Racquel), Vinny, Lisa, Tommy, Tracy, Miguel, Ken and Tyrone. I wished them all well, and barring injury; I hoped they finished. More importantly, I hope their lives improved from the experience .I am still enjoying intangible benefits from twenty two years ago.
