I'm back---kind of! Thanks to all of you who have taken time to keep in touch these past two months. Just for the record, I have been giving, just not blogging. And on Thanksgiving Day, I realized it was my 1 year anniversary of 29 gifts. I tell you, this pretty much saved me. The philosophy of turning my attention to others in need or places I could be of service has made a huge and lifelong difference to me.
When 2009 ended, I cried in the restaurant and said it was the worst year of my life. As 2010 comes to a close, we have survived lots of shaky ground, but continue to make progress....some days more than others. I think that's called life. I have much to be thankful/grateful for.
One of the biggest projects I've taken on at work (in September) involves newswriting and editing a national e-zine every day. Plus my work blog, and writing client's stuff...no wonder I haven't been blogging!
Some interesting Gives that stand out from these past few months:
1- I took my 14 yr old niece to the mall on Black Friday --- 6AM. She was SO excited. Treated her to a bunch of goodies :)
2- Complimented a woman in the store on her eyeglasses.
3- For one straight week, I left the few cents change from my coffee on the counter at the conveninece store---for someone who may run short.
4-Worked super hard (and still doing it) on spending more quality time with my husband...and kids.
5- Filled in for my husband for a 2-day trip to visit our daughter in Utah, even though he was supposed to go this time around.
6- Took care of Wally, our golden retriever (you know, my son's dog>wink wink) even though it interferred with my plans.
7- Was EXTREMELY patient with the rental car clerk in Birmingham, AL when he messed up my reservation twice, and had to call for help. It should have taken less than 5 minutes, but I was there---trying to smile---for 15 min.
It's good to be back.
Cheers and hugs,
Susan

Comment by RebeccaGallo on December 15, 2010 at 7:01pm Great gifts:) The first and last ones really touched me. The first because I detest shopping. The last because you never know what's going on in the life of the guy behind the counter. He already knew he'd messed up and was probably beating himself up about it. How nice that you didn't add to those feelings already going through his head.
Comment by Mandee on December 15, 2010 at 7:00pm Susan- you are an inspiration to beginners (like me) who would like to commit to doing this for as long as I can! Keep up the good work. You are appreciated.
