I saw Cami's book in an MS Society magazine. Having MS myself I thought I would give it a read. Once I started reading it, it was hard to put down. It is amazing what happens when you focus on other people.
I thought I was a generous person but it is usually from a distance (i.e. quick donation here, sponsor somebody at work, offering at church) Never really a personal giving. The closest I have gotten is when I due the 150 mile bike ride for MS. You cross the finish line and there are people suffering from MS far worse than I, hugging me and thanking be for doing the and raising money. (I did not have the heart to tell them I was riding to raise money to find a cure for me as well). But reading 29 gifts it made me think I should get more personal / meaningful with my giving. God has blessed me with a sucessful career and I now think I should try to help others with it.
Anyway, I am rambling.. My first gift was to give my copy of 29 gifts to a person who is in a really bad place. She as aways played the victim card and thinks life is screwing her. Adding to that, a year ago she was in a bad car accicent and she won't get past it. She can't do this, can't do that. The accident prevents here from working, the accident won't let her do what she loves. It goes on and on. So I presented 29 gifts to her and asked her to read it. I told her that she needs to start looking at what she can do, instead of what she can't. My hope is that it will help her get past this black spot in her life.
I look forward to this adventure of 29 gifts. More later!!
