29-Day Giving Challenge

I've been a DIY hair colorer for a number of years using the drugstore box kind of color. My dear sweet friend/stylist Karen, who owns a shop in Winter Park, Flordia, and where I've been going for 4.5 years, took pity on my hair several months ago and offered me a hair color deal I couldn't refuse. Using higher quality salon color, she tamed the flaming red that was my all too often result in the search for the perfect shade. Now, for the record, I am a blond with a little itty bitty bit of reddish highlights but hey, red does run in our family - just not in my follicles. After my hair appointment this morning where I received fresh color and a snappy cut, I headed out to run the remainder of my errands. While driving, my thoughts ran to our upcoming move from Florida to South Carolina scheduled for mid-December, 2009. "What on earth am I going to do about my hair color after I move?" and "I'll never get this kind of deal again on color", etc. After a bit, my thoughts turned elsewhere. Soon, I was pulling into a parking space near the front door @ Target (another story for another day). Grabbing a cart from the parking lot, I headed toward the entrance. I looked up and found myself following a young lady also pushing a cart toward the entrance. Then I noticed her LOVELY red hair cascading around her shoulders and down her back. I'd been waiting all day to see what my gift for today would be - there it was right in front of me - to compliment this lady on her beautiful natural red hair. She had a bit of a walking challenge so I quickly caught up with her.

"Oh, I love your red hair. It is so gorgeous on you!", I said as I pulled along side her.

A glowing smile greeted me as she responded, "You too can have this hair color."

It took me just a nanosecond before I realized what she was saying. "What do you mean?", I asked.

"It is called Copper Canyon by Clairol and you can get it at Sally Beauty supply. All you have to do is mix it with the developer," she said.

"You mean that is not your natural color?", I responded.

"No, it's not. My real hair color is a mousy brown," she said. "My mother is a hairdresser so she actually does the coloring for me."

We exchanged a few more remarks and then as I got into the store, I stopped to write down my new found info. Forty-five minutes later, in the car headed to the next errand, it dawned on me that I had received a gift myself today - the answer to my dilemma about my hair color after I move. Just like that, what I needed was provided - as it always is.

Thank you, Lord.
