Day 16 - Connecting

After an intensive week of looking after a friend, today was a day of lots of little things. After shipping off my friend's belongings that wouldn't fit into her suitcase I tucked in a beautiful cashmere scarf that I had bought for myself, which I now realize would look better on her and make her happy. That was my physical give today.

The rest of the day I practiced opening my eyes to everyone around me. I spend so much time walking around with blinders on, just trying to get through the day, avoiding contact with humanity so that I can get my stuff done. Since starting this challenge I've found so much joy in just looking at the person walking past me, making eye contact and smiling. I take a moment to look at the cashier or the librarian or the bank teller and make a connection with them and it's been so rewarding. The entire day becomes more colorful and peaceful. Every interaction becomes an opportunity and a gift.
