Day 17 ~ Round 4 Flowers say more than words

Today was busy and so was yesterday as it involved all the neighbors to show one sweet and lovely 92 year old lady among us who lives across the street how much she is appreciated and loved. Last month she fell and fractured her wrist and broke her hip and needed surgery. She's been home now for almost 2 weeks and the other day she was sitting out on her porch with her daughter who is staying with her while she recovers. As I looked over at her and waved and said "Hi" I was struck with an impending sense of urgency to pray for her and to do something to show her how her courage and strength is an inspiration to all of us on our street. I ordered a large arrangement of daffodiles and daisies and other spring time flowers with 2 angels as a reminder that they are watching over her. I called all those living on our street to ask if they wanted to pitch in and all but 2 said a resounding "yes". They were so glad someone took the initiative to do this and I for one did not want to wait until it was too late. I wanted her to enjoy the flowers that were sent with love and admiration while she was still alive. Yes, this was a good idea and one I credit God for giving to me. Everyone was happy and the 2 that chose not to participate were not left out of the opportunity. They may choose do something on their own. Still, the sweet lady was deeply touched and so was her daughter. That was a huge gift to me as I heard her joy on the other end of the phone today when I called to see if she liked the flowers. She sent some home made soup over and one of the angels so I could share in her delight. God is good! Blessings, Effie

What a truly wonderful give! How sweet small acts of kindness are! I'm not sure if you ever heard the saying, "Eat the dessert first." Sometimes we never get to enjoy the goodness of life because we are in the business of living and surviving. It is so wonderful that you moved at the small nudge of God! I'm trying to respond to the nudges and insights as I receive them as much as I can! You're inspirational! Take care, Sharon

what a wonderful give! the colors and smells of springtime are so healing. it's nice that you gave your neighbors the chance to get in on the gift, too. it reminded me of a poem that i read a long time ago, thought you might like to read it. Hugs, Dawn

I would rather have one small rose
From the garden of a friend
Than to have the choicest flowers
When my stay on Earth must end.

I would rather have one pleasant word
In kindness said to me
Than flattery when my heart is still
And my life on Earth has ceased to be.

I would rather have a loving smile
From friends I know are true
Than tears shed round my casket
When this world I've bid Adieu.

Bring me all your flowers today
Whether pink, white or red:
I'd rather have one blossom now
Than a truckload when I'm dead.

God can have the credit for giving you the idea... but you get the credit for taking the initiative and actually doing it! How many times does somebody get a little idea or hear a little voice telling them to do something...and push it aside, ignore it, or think they'll do it "some day" ??? You didn't do that. You stepped up and did something meaningful for this lady. Very nice!
