foo and i are making banana bread muffins as thank you gifts for my aunt joan's science olympiad. she has 70 or so judges and we are making the thank yous since she has so much on her plate organizing the rest of it. so today we did a test run of the recipe, and made 6 giant muffins. so this evening i went on a tour of the town, visiting and dropping off muffins. i went to my grandpa's house first, gave him a muffin and chatted a bit, then to my aunt ellen's house, and gave her two muffins and talked with her. it was great to talk with her- i've seen such a transformation in her in the past year or two. she's been a single mother and never dated any men as long as i've known her, but her daughter is grown now, and ellen reunited with an old friend and they're now dating and very very in love. she's a totally different person. she's happier, laughs more, and is far less cynical. it's pretty amazing to know someone 25 years and then almost instantly see a complete transformation.
after ellen's i stopped by my aunt joan's house to give her a muffin.
and finally! the last muffin! i went to the house of my best friend since forever, nikki, and gave her the last muffin. foo was along with me, and they got to meet. it's amazing that i've been dating foo for almost three years and this is the first time nikki and foo have met. i've lived on the east coast and been traveling for most of those three years, but still, it seems like they should have met. so the meeting went well, it's always nice to talk with nikki. even if we haven't seen each other in a year, we pick up right where we left off. those kinds of relationships are really nice.
so today my gift was banana bread muffins for lots of people i love. and in return i got to have good conversations with all of them.
