Another intense day. This evening, I found out one of my best friends spent the day dealing with a major crisis in her family. She lives several thousand miles away, though we text every day. All I can do is let her know I'm here, that I love her, and give her space (given the situation, those are the things she needs the most). But it jolted me out of my mundane concerns.
An update from yesterday: I talked to a woman who works near where the man collapsed, and she said the paramedics had said he'd be okay. It also turns out the other woman - who I'd been judgmental towards for not taking more action - *did* in fact make sure the right things were done, and it turned out she was extremely shaken, too. So that teaches me not to make assumptions (a lesson I've had so many times, you'd think I'd have learned it by now).
Gift-wise, I went semi-stealth today: there's a popular mom & pop shop that sells homemade ice cream here; I went in and talked to the owners, told them about 29 Gifts and said I wanted to pay for two large cones, and that they could decide who to give them to. It took a while to explain, and they were surprised (especially that I wanted to remain anonymous), but they thought it was very cool and agreed.
Before that, I'd already given away some of the items from Freecycle, and I gave my neighbour another lesson on the iPod, but I was feeling restless and lonely, and a bit down. After the ice cream 'give', though, I felt *much* better. I still felt a bit at loose ends most of the day, but I meditated and walked and generally focused on getting centered.
I hope all of you had a wonderful Saturday, wherever you are and whatever you're doing.
