Day 3 -
I gave time to Planned Parenthood. I participated in a phone bank thing where we called key constituents about Healthcare Reform in the Senate. I was really disappointed when the House passed that Stupid Stupak amendment. I feel pretty strongly that Congress should not use Healthcare Reform as an opportunity to limit access to healthcare for women. It seems crazy to me that legislation that is supposed to free up access to healthcare for everyone would be hijacked to instead take away rights from women. It is absolutely incredible, what lengths they go to to make up problems that don't even exist!! Anyway, that's a rant.. I spent some time calling people to encourage them to contact their representatives. I had never done anything like that so it was difficult but interesting and really rewarding because I got to talk to people in the northeast - and I'm live in the southeast, so it was nice.
I also bought my mom a bottle of wine and shared it with her-- rewarding also because we had a good conversation!
Days 4, 5 & 6
These were hard days because I work 12 hour shifts on the weekend. I will have to better prepare over the next couple of weeks so it's not so hard.
On Day 4 I helped a co-worker with something pretty minor. But she was grateful so I think it counts :)
On Day 5 I gave some encouragement to a different co-worker. She may not have noticed it as much but I tried my best. She is going through a difficult transition so instead of focusing selfishly on how her transition makes things hard for me I tried to encourage her to pursue her goals and advocate for herself.
On Day 6 I work in healthcare and had a patient that was pretty difficult. I gave him and his family respect even though I was offended by how they treated me. It was hard but I'm glad I treated him and his family with respect.
