The weekend seemed to offer great opportunity for giving. A gift of a dog crate for a friends daughter that we were not using anymore, holding the door for someone coming in the store as I am going out. A friendly word to the sales people who are just trying to make a sale. And then it is back to work and the rush of teaching, sometimes it seems so easy to give to students and sometimes it just isn't, like the student who curses you out as he storms out of the classroom. I wrestle with giving him a gift, or should I give it to someone who might appreciate it more. But this challenge isn't about giving the easy way, I think this is about giving to the one we don't want to give to, the one who we don't want to be nice to. So.... I guess the cursing student wins this one, and tomorrow I will take him back into class and give him the gift of a clean slate.
