Day 4: Scarleteen

Because today is World AIDS, I wanted to make a donation to an organization that is doing something to combat the dreaded epidemic.

I finally settled on Scarleteen, the premier online sexuality resource for young people worldwide since 1998. Not only did I want to invest in efforts of youth to reach each other, I also appreciated Scarleteen's straight-no-chaser and holistic approach to sexuality education. Having done HIV/AIDS advocacy in a previous life, I'm aware that the only way for us to have a fighting chance against the syndrome, we have to consider other health issues and take into account the relationship public health has to things like economics, education and criminal justice. That is, you don't fight HIV/AIDS by fighting only HIV/AIDS. You fight it by also taking a stand against poverty, illiteracy, violence and a host of societal "isms."
