29-Day Giving Challenge

Today I wrote a letter to a mom of a fellow 29 day giver for encouragement. I also comforted my hubby when he came home from the doctor telling me he is one point on his blood sugar to diabetes (which his father died young of) and that his chlorestoral is extremely high. He is now on a restricted diet of his own. Ironically, he was told to eat a ton of meat including red meat (which I cannot have). He also is restricted to limited sugar. He needs to watch his carbs and fat content too. He can eat a very limited amount of rice and potatoes (I eat a ton of potatoes, and no rice) ! So, needless to say, we had even more fun at the grocery store reading each and every label for him now too and not just me. I think it took about 2 hours! Just when I finally got down all of the foods I can and cannot eat and what brands have what, now I have to remember his foods too :). But, I kept helping when he got overwhelmed and comforted him the best that I can. I know how much it sucks to be told you cannot eat a ton of foods that you love so I wanted to be the best friend that I could be!

Thanks everyone :). I have a lot more restrictions then him for my fibromyalgia diet so back to the recipes on line and in books I go :) ! Ironically Ruth, I do need more fat in my diet because with my restrictions I had cut almost all of it out and he needs lean food :), mustv'e been written about us!

I can really relate to your story Allie as my husband was diagnosed with diabetes last year and it changed our lives drastically. I have come to appreciate every day with him now even though it is trying at times. At least we have him and our trying times and are closer due to it. You are a strong and loving person and you are already dealing well with it. It does suck though at times =0) Hope your hubby does well.

Oh Allie, every shopping trip and meal is going to be a major gift of loving care. just hope it doesn't take too long to get used to the new rules for your meals. It has brought an old nursery rhyme to mind.....

Jack Sprat could eat no fat
His wife could eat no lean
And so betwixt the two of them
They licked the platter clean.
