I was led to a website that is for ACA (Adult Children of Alcoholics) recovery. I registered to participate in their online meetings and seek support as I begin to work the steps. I immediately came across a post, which was actually from the person who manages the website. Turns out he and his wife own a couple of recovery transition homes in Wilmington, NC. I didn't have to read past the second paragraph before I was reaching for my checkbook...and $100 came out of me without hesitation. I wrote the check, then went back to finish reading the post for an address of where to send it. Don't misunderstand. This was not someone seeking pity and handouts for himself. In fact, if you're interested at all in donating even the smallest of money so this couple won't lose the homes, please visit
http://mip.12stepforums.net/ (Miracles in Progress Aftercare Recovery Homes).
At the end of his post was a reference to the cost of one week's rent...$95. What are the odds of my immediately writing a $100 check before ever reading that part of the post? I am convinced that this was nothing short of divine intervention. I had such a good feeling in my heart when I started reading the post and it just grew the more I read. I was so over-joyed to be able to help this couple. I have a family member that credits a recovery transition home as the main reason why he continues to stay sober today. He said the AA/NA meetings were not enough (at least not for him). It was the six-months of daily encouragement and support that finally turned him around. What this NC couple is doing is a much needed service, the financing of which is not supplemented by our government!
The economy is hitting people and much needed services all around us. This couple has committed their lives to helping recovering addicts turn their lives around and start anew. All we hear and read in the news headlines lately are the debates over government bailouts. What about people like this couple who not only work full-time jobs to meet their own basic needs, but also find the time and finances to assist people in need with a roof over their head and basic essentials.
Today I gave $100 and a prayer of abundance and blessings for everyone out there who's voices are not being heard, but are also in a similar financial situation as Miracles In Progress. I received a song in my heart and ended this day feeling the best I have felt in a week.
