I woke up today wondering how the day will unfold & just how giving will weave into things. Funny, maybe the word 'weave', set the tone without me realizing it. I went to the post office and as a man held the door for me I looked into his eyes, smiled and thanked him for his kindness. (He stood there holding the door while waiting for me to climb the stairs). Then it occurred to me, What if i look into every person's eyes I passed by today and at the very least smiled at them? Or perhaps commented on something about them i noticed? So I did just that. Passed by and smiled at some, complimented others and then I went into the local market. As I was standing there and a woman came up next to me and I noticed a disappointed look on her face. I thought, gee should i say something? After a couple of rounds of this internal dialogue I decided to jump in and said, "is there something you were looking for that you couldn't find?" She said, yes, it's the 2nd time she has come for a specific item that they didn't have. I empathized with her. Yet thought I know the market well & had never not seen barbecued tofu there and I silently became convinced that they must have it. I took a look around & found it. I excitedly showed her and she was elated. Truly. We chatted a bit more, had some laughs and then went our separate ways. Now of course this is not an anecdote about tofu. It highlighted how much we really all are inextricably linked. (12.01)
