...With beautiful results.
Ironically I usually don't count gifts to my kid as "gifts" since part of me insists that "father" loosely translates as "guy who gives his children everything he possibly can." But this was a good, planned gift that I was looking forward to giving (and it makes for a good story) so I count it anyway.
In our many visits to the library we'd come across a series of children's CD's entitled Beethoven's Wig. It is a series traditional classical songs with some very creative and silly lyrics added to appeal to children. (Imagine Beethoven's fifth symphony with lyrics describing the immense size of Beethoven's wig.) Suffice it to say both father and child have shared many a laugh while listening.
I'd sent the CDs with her to her grandmother's over the summer, and they didn't come back. So for my Day 18 gift I surprised her by making a mix CD of the series via the computer. And as fortune would have it we also happened across a mom and her child in need of a ride. So my little girl got to not only sing along to her much-missed tunes but did so as a serenade to our guests (who were quite amused at her operatic gusto.)
A good give, and a lot of fun. For those with small children (or those just wanting a laugh) googling the series is very well worth it.
