29-Day Giving Challenge

Yesterday was day three of five days my brother is staying with us. Since we have so many Thanksgiving Day leftovers, meals were as simple as microwaving or sandwich making-what a nice break for me! He was quite tired from the Thanksgiving Day activity and stayed in bed awhile, allowing me to catch a much needed power nap. When he did wake up, I gave him a good bed bath and lotioned his back. I dressed him in his nicest clothes and we took him to see a Christmas Program at a nearby country music venue in the evening. He really enjoyed the outing but his energy level never hit a high the entire day. His personal care needs are so many- even his toileting habits have to be planned around when taking him on an outing of any length. We still had a great day together, and I am so proud of my husband for how much he contributed to his care. I couldn't do this without him. So, I continue to give to my brother until tomorrow when he returns to his home. Without my husband I probably couldn't have pulled this one off - even positioning my brother in the bed is a two-person task. But that's okay, isn't it? Giving doesn't always have be a solo experience, in fact it's even better when it's shared. Just like we all who are participating in this challenge are doing, by posting our blogs and sharing our stories. Thanks to you who gave your comments and support on my first post, and thanks to all here who are sharing their stories of giving...

Karen,
What an amazing gift you are giving to your brother. You are truly an angel. Sharing this giving with your husband is wonderful. Even your son was in on this gift. Enjoy your brother for the remainder of the his visit. He will remember this for a long time.

Karen~~I know you live in God's country; I lived 1 year in Grand Rivers while attending Murray State.

What a loving thing to do for ThanksGiving. Most of the time having people visit over the holidays involves things we take for granted, like being ambulatory. Not to mention tbladder and bowel control that we also take for granted. What a fabulous give!

Reminds me of the line from an old hymn, about "stars in your crpwn"....(I'm not suggesting that y'all did it for that reason; the snippet just came to me.)

Holiday blessings!
