Immediately after signing up for this challenge, my husband asked if we could give a play mat to his single co-worker who is babysitting for her newborn nephew.
Aware of the cool serendipity at work in my life, I put together a bag of baby things mindfully reflecting on what things would be most useful for someone without children suddenly in charge of watching a newborn. Mother Theresa spoke about not giving away our cast offs but instead giving away things that show our respect for the recipients. I tried to keep this in mind as I put together the care package.
Day Two I sent a comic book to my thirteen year old nephew as a reward/reminder for good behavior. He and I had made a deal last week that if his behavior improved towards his Grammy this week, I would send him a Spy vs. Spy comic. I checked in with him and he said he did the things we talked about. I told him I trusted his word and would send him the book. Shortly after sending the comic to him, my mother in law (aka Grammy) called me. During the course of our conversation (without me asking) Grammy told me that my nephew approached her this week and apologized for his hurtful behavior - a huge thing...
And today (Day Three), I gave the students of my Yoga Class (the first class I have taught - eight weeks of practice teaching to complete my certification) a fifteen minute morning Yoga practice for them to try out at home. Again, trying to be conscious and thoughtful in my giving, I typed it all up and went to print it when I realized I was out of ink. I decided I would buy a cartridge on my way back home from the gym and print it off right before class.. Walgreens did not have the right cartridge. I really wanted to give this gift to my class, so instead of giving up, I got creative. I ran out to Kinkos, printed the document from my Gmail account, made copies and was able to hand them out to my students.
Incidentally, my class gave me a lovely gift as a thank you for teaching. I like this challenge :)
