Happy Sunday everyone! I joined this amazing site yesterday and the rewards are already tremendous! Today is my Mother's Birthday, Happy Birthday Mom!! I will have to write about the little girl that only wanted to buy her mommy a new dress and shoes. I thought about what I wanted to give as a gift today, should it go to Mom on her very special day? I decided that this is a journey I want to travel spontaneously helping someone I do not know. My family and friend's already benefit from my giving and with each of them I do it often so the giving would not have as much meaning or impact as it would just giving something to a stranger.
So this morning I was ready to put giving to a stranger to the test. My son and I went to Dunkin Doughnuts for a tasty, cheating on the diet kinda treat for breakfast. I ordered our dozen and my Turbo boost coffee with cream to go and as my son and I were standing there waiting for our box of heaven to go, the older lady behind us was placing her order. A widow, I could tell..I just could and she seemed to be grabbing some breakfast before heading to church.
I was not standing far from her or the counter and so I stepped forward just as the cashier had finished ringing up her order and stated .." It is on me"! Then I turned to her and said, please allow me to purchase your breakfast for you this morning. I saw the argument bubbling to the tip of her tongue just as I said , please let me do this because it is part of an amazing journey I am on and I am giving a gift to someone each day for 29 days. After standing there for what seemed like forever and as the line started growing with other patrons wanting to order, she finally looked at me and smiled really big and turned to the gentleman behind her and said...Breakfast young man is on me! I retrieved a big HUG and wrote down this website information for her, said our good byes just in time to hear a guy three customers back from the man she had paid for say...Hey man Breakfast is on me!
I think my son was more teary eyed than I was and all he kept saying was " Mom that was so cool, can we go somewhere else and do it again...Son we sure can ...tomorrow!
This was something I had no idea would even work but reaching out to one helped others find their giving heart...in the words of my son...it was cool!!
