It is not often that I get to watch the sun come up but this morning was I was blessed with that opportunity. Not because my little one woke me or because I had to rush off to work but simply because as the birds began to chirp outside my window it roused me from my sleep.
To take advantage I crept out of bed, trying hard not to wake my daughter. I put on my swimsuit, my walking clothes and sneakers and off I went. The amazing thing about the community I am living in here in Barbados is no matter how early you are up there are others up to greet you.
I must have said, “Good Morning, Have a pleasant rest of the day,” a minimum of thirteen times before I reached the Garrison Savannah just outside of Bridgetown. The greetings continued as I made my way around the horse racing track passing the George Washington House, where our founding President stayed during his visit with his brother Lawrence. As I completed my lap I greet my ex-husbands brothers Junior and Romelle. It is satisfying to be out walking but the connection to others is more satisfying.
I make my way down to the beach enjoying the white sand and turquoise ocean. A lone swim is refreshing. After returning to the house I realize my gift for the day is time. Time for myself, time for my family, time for relaxing. It amazes me that this gift feels so genuine when done with intention.
I spend the balance of the morning at the beach with my family building castles in the sand. Early in the afternoon a nap for me and ending the day by joining my family in Bridgetown for the Christmas Tree Lighting.
It is the season of giving and it feels good.
