29-Day Giving Challenge

I'm about two weeks in to my 29 Day Challenge and I realize that I'm not as motivated to do a specific act of giving every day and then blog about it. It's a little discouraging but on the flip side it's also kind of cool because I'm giving things without realizing it; as opposed to giving being a task I should complete each day. It's becoming more part of my automatic nature no matter what the calendar says. Like yesterday I let a guy with fewer grocery items than me go first without thinking about it an without getting annoyed that he seemed to think that was his due (well, ok, I got a little annoyed).

Not always of course as some days I my old, self focused, narcissistic self but I can sense the improvement and feel this group does a great service not only to us who are practicing its gifting philosophy but to the positive change, no matter how small, that's created from our efforts.

Feeling a little philosophical today....

Hey LuckieGirl, thanks for your comment. To clarify I didn't mean it's discouraging for me to consciously plan out my giving and blog about it, although this has the potential to reduce the goodness to just a task to be completed. It was more a reflection on my own disappointment with myself for not being as passionate about this journey as when I first started and that maybe that's ok because the giving has become more a part of my nature.

And yes, you're so right about letting go..try not to think about the whys or whats and just do it. Blogging about it may feel like you're making some sort of self serving announcement but I look at it as a way of encouraging others while helping you to keep developing the good habits of giving.

I love people like you that let me in to the line of traffic, we need more of you out there on the roads!

Tricia! I think you hit on what a lot of us struggle with: Trying to remember to give with awareness almost seems forced, and then to write about it for the whole world, or at least the members of the site, to see really feels like it's defeating the whole purpose.

I have struggled with this throughout the first 29 days, and one week into Round 2, I still feel misgivings about the things I do.

Part of this process for me is letting go of that ambivilence of giving/blogging/thinking about it/doing it.
I, too, feel philosophical much of the time regarding my journey here, but I realized yesterday that maybe trying to change the world isn't so much my challenge, rather it's trying to change myself. Maybe that's the ultimate gift I can give to the world, to be a bit more compassionate and charitable. We all have those days of narcissism and I think sometimes that is strictly survival mode kicking in. Just the fact that you wanted to join the effort means that your self-centeredness doesn't come from a place of complete self-involvement. If we don't put our own health, happiness, security first, no one will.

Good for you for letting that guy go ahead of you. My favorite give is letting people into the heavy stream of traffic...It's the little things in life...and, yeah, I love the wave I get in return!

Keep giving, girl! Can't wait to see what else you come up with!
