Yesterday, I started with a gift for myself - a walk. Then, my gift to someone else was loading the dishwasher. I really didn't want to, but just made it my gift - and once you get going, it really doesn't take that long. And there's an odd sense of satisfaction about fitting it all in there....
Today my gift was to pick up a couple cans that are littering the park I walk to during my morning walk. I always forget to bring a bag, so I figured I'd just pick up two and carry them. Then, I ran into a couple walking their dogs. The gentleman thanked me for picking up the cans, said they picked them up too when they saw them, and offered to take them from me and put them in his mailbox and he'd get them on his way back. So I didn't even have to carry them the whole way:) Then, I came home and decided to load the morning dishes into the dishwasher and get it going. There is a sense of accomplishment when you keep the dishes moving through their "cycle." :)
So many wonderful things happened yesterday after my walk. I was gifted some time and I used it to start making a book I'd had sitting out waiting to be put together. I think my gift to myself today will be to finish the book:) And then a friend offered to gift me the rest of the miles I need for my flight to Spain! So today I'll be booking that trip. Not only did she gift me the miles, but it costs a penny per mile to transfer the miles and she offered to pay that fee for me as well! Oh - and on that same walk this morning the wife of the couple I met has a thin mat at home that she was about to give to the thrift store, but offered it to me when I was talking about my Camino trip and how I might want to bring a sleeping mat in case I have to sleep on a floor. I just met her and she offered that to me! How serendipitous that it was in her give away box just when I talked about getting one. She's going to leave it on a mailbox tomorrow for me to pick up on my morning walk.

Wow, you're the second person in just this past few weeks to mention zenhabits.net; back then, I looked through a few of them, which looked interesting, but now have signed up to follow that as well. Still isn't solving my problem of attending to my own personal tasks before I sit down to the computer! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaccchhhhhhhhhhh!
XOXO
Comment by Anita Silva on February 9, 2012 at 6:37am Great to read you've got the miles to book your ticket! As you know I have walked the Camino in 2003 and I am very excited for you. I'm sure it will be a great experience and there is a good chance I will be following your blog in May.
Comment by RebeccaGallo on February 8, 2012 at 2:57pm I have a "no computer after 9pm" rule so that I don't stay up too late on it! If you're looking for some inspiration on how to get things done, I highly recommend zenhabits.net. I can honestly say that's the one blog that has most helped me to accomplish things I've "always said" I wanted to do.
And thanks for following my blog:)
Oh thanks, I watched a PBS show about that recently and so have some awareness of the challenge you'll be embarking on-wow! Didn't realize you also had your own blog, so thanks for the link-I read the last few things you wrote and am intrigued, so I just signed up to follow that as well. Although the few blogs I follow are so interesting to me, it doesn't help my intentions to get certain things done in my own life! Have to learn to set limits for myself-no computer time until the chores are done!
XOXO
Comment by RebeccaGallo on February 8, 2012 at 1:16pm Oh good for them Linda!! Sometimes we don't get to our dreams at the time we originally thought, but if we hold onto them.... :)
I'm going to Spain to walk the Camino. It's a pilgrimage trail through Northern Spain. About 460 miles from St Jean Pied-de-Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. I'll be blogging while I'm there. You can follow it at http://renaissancerebecca.wordpress.com,
That was quite the productive walk, on so many levels!!! I'm not sure if you wrote about it here, but I don't know why/where/when you are going to Spain. If you have any extra time, I'd love to hear some of the details about that.....
I've never been there myself, but my husband's youngest brother and his newlywed wife lived in Barcelona for 9 months while he did some of his schooling in International Business there. They were planning to return for their 25th wedding anniversary, but their plans were WAY delayed as he battled a rare cancer for the past five years. He is once again in remission (and potentially "cured"), so they finally got to take their whole family of 5 kids there during the week of Thanksgiving-seven years after their original plan. I've got a photo of all of them with Montserrat in the background on my refrigerator; it is one of the things that brings me so much joy just to look at it! Talk about never giving up your dreams.....
XOXO
