Day 10: I was on the phone with a good friend, crying over a bit of a broken heart. She had seen that I'd left a message, and her gift for the day was to call me even though it was late (11pm) and I'm sure she'd have preferred to get to sleep. My gift was to thank her for being such a good friend - one who would call at 11 and talk to me for as long as it takes to make me feel better (and to gently remind me of the advice we tell each other so often: it's always better in the morning - and indeed, today it was.)
Day 11: Sent a thank you to a friend who gave me a reusable bag over the summer. I use it as my laundry bag while on the road and thought of her today as I was taking my laundry out of the dryer.
Wonderful things that have happened: As I was helping my hostess declutter her storage room, she asked if she could take me out to dinner tonight - at my favorite restaurant no less. It was a lovely way to spend the evening. (In order to work through aforementioned broken heart, I try to keep my days filled so as not to think about it too much...and I had no plans for the evening and was wondering how I was going to get through it!)
A second wonderful thing: I sent a couchsurfing request out and got a response back very quickly. I'm staying with a lovely couple in Asheville in a couple weeks for two nights on my way to Kiawah Island, SC for a writing retreat. Oh how I love couchsurfing.org:) Even better: I'm staying in Asheville because friends driving to the retreat from Ohio are meeting me there so we can car pool. Am also car pooling to Asheville tomorrow for the day to meet a former writing teacher and fellow student - it's so nice when you ask people to car pool and they accept:)

I wish you all the best as you work through your situation. Everything sounds like a good plan to get to the retreat. Take care, and enjoy..
