My, my, how the time can fly.
Day Fourteen
I was leaving the library parking lot with my kid in tow and I saw a man poking around under the hood of his car. I had that but-I-really-don't-want-to-give-right-now thought, but then I thought about it for a moment longer--if I were stuck in a parking lot, wouldn't I want help? Haven't I already gotten help in those contexts? So I took a walk over and asked if he needed help. He was actually fine, just adding some water, and we ended up in a nice chat. So again, the impulse to give gave more than the impulse to withhold could predict.
Day Fifteen
A scheduled give, since I had signed up to volunteer at my daughter's school. I chose to help out in the morning with the cross walks through the business park that the school is located inside. The day began chilly but it warmed up quickly, and I felt like I looked the part in my dark shades and bright orange vest. It was a pleasure walking the various groups of parents and children through the cross walk; the kids are very sweet. And after my shift ended I gave one of the other volunteers a ride home; turns out she's an aspiring voice over artist and I had just met a successful VO person the weekend before, so putting them together was an easy give as well.
Days Sixteen and Seventeen
This was a circumstantially demanding weekend, but the spirit of giving ironically kept me from getting very pissy about it. My daughter needed to get to her various rehearsals (she's much the little performer), and it was my ex-wife's birthday weekend, which she'd packed with various celebrations. So my "give" was to take my daughter everywhere she needed to be and spend lots of time with her, which allowed her mom to party. Of course I got to spend goodly amounts of time with my sweet little one, so again, ultimately very easy gives.
And the giving goes on!
