Wow, it's hard to believe it's been 5 days since I've been on here! The Hampton Roads area was hit by a nor-easter last week that caused lots of flooding and power outages throughout the region, hence the delay in my blog.
My Day 3 give (November 11-the day before the storm) had nothing to do with the storm, but with a monetary debt that I have chosen to relieve (both physically and mentally). I have realized that sometimes while I physically relieve debts owed, mentally I hold onto them.....that will definitely have to be a continual focus in order to truly prove to myself that this is a give!!
My Day 4 give was giving phone support- I offered my support to friends in a flood area to assure them that I would be there for clean up operations and work as hard as possible to help restore them back to some level of normalcy in their home lives. I pulled my hip waders out of storage, found my work coveralls, and seeked permission to borrow my brother's truck for flood water navigation so that I could reach the areas in need.
My Day 5-7 give was supporting clean-up operations. I assisted with yard clean-up- picking up random debris, trash, etc. that appeared due to the high waters. I cut and removed carpets, padding, wood tack strips, etc. I cleaned and disinfected areas where floodwaters were present...walls, cabinets, floors, throwing out destroyed products, etc. I worked every day and into the evening, breaking only for sleep, food, a missions meeting, and church!!
My Day 8 give was helping a friend move furniture back that had been moved prior to the storm. What a workout!!
