Day 4 was hard. I was with my husband all day and we went to the Canoecopia in Madison. The only thing I gave was a small tip for a beer from a vendor who didn't have a jar out. I did look for opportunities, like smiling, holding the door open, etc. But later I thought, I should have paid my own way, or for both of us, and I could have paid for the next person coming after us. Next time I'll know.
Day 5 was hard in a different way. I met sorority sisters for lunch in Chicago. One friend was in for the weekend but she forgot her purse. I tried to give her $20 (because she didn't have any money or her ATM card) but she wouldn't take it. I stayed later with one especially good friend and picked up our ticket. But when we got to the parking garage, she insisted on paying for half of my parking bill. The only really good gift I could give was the small birthday gift I took for my friend. This giving stuff is hard!
Day 6 was lame. I took ice cream to a dinner party. But . . . I took pictures and posted them later that night to share with everyone. That was less lame.
Day 7 - today. A good friend received a book I ordered for her several days ago. I had a meeting with friends about a retirement party we're throwing for a friend. But I think I could have done better.
It's been a week. I have plans for a gift for tomorrow and the next day, but I need to look ahead of even that. Still, I am looking and looking for ideas, sometimes just realizing it after the fact that I could have done something. Maybe I'll get better.
