29-Day Giving Challenge

So, kind of a slow week. It feels a little like cheating, but my gifts for Wed and Thurs were comments and acknowledgment of things that my husband and coworkers do/have done. My husband is.... not overly motivated when it comes to helping with household chores, and he and I have discussed his making sure to get his part done. It isn't always easy for him to remember, so I am working on remembering to notice when he does his stuff, and thank him for doing it. I am hopeful that the recognition will prompt him to do this more without me needing to remind him. And we are having some staffing changes at work, so I want to make sure to let the people who are having a difficult time with these transitions know that they are appreciated and the work that they do is noticed.

Today, I had the opportunity to do a greater give... I had (before beginning my 29 days) offered one of the moms at the child care center where I work some after hours child care in case she needed it. She is a single mom, and doesn't have a lot of help/support in the area, and as a mommy of 2 with a spouse, I can't imagine being a single parent. It is hard enough with the two of us... But anyway, she got in touch with me this morning to ask me if I could watch her little boy, because our daycare was closed today, but she still had to go to work. He was over for several hours, and it was great to watch him playing with my little boy. What a great day!

it's not cheating at all ... those comments and appreciation are important gifts; I know I love to be appreciated for what I do.
And the childcare ... wonderful! You really went above and beyond with that. It's something that mother really needed ...

what a gift you gave that mother! you are right, it is a lot harder to be a single mom in lots of ways but particularly because you are it, there is no back-up. there's no reason to feel like you are cheating by counting the acknowledging of things done right by your husband and your coworkers. so often people only speak up when something is wrong. positive reinforcement is so much better, i think. Hugs, Dawn
