29-Day Giving Challenge

Ever see the movie 'Sleeping With The Enemy' with Julia Roberts?

Omg, is it really 21 yrs old already?  Still worth watching. I really got a kick out of it b/c I'm an Organizational Freak, (it's in my bloodline), some may call OCD. Well, so is Patrick Bergin who plays her husband in the movie.  Everything has to be just so; the cans lined up and neatly stacked in the kitchen cabinets, the hand towels in the bathroom folded just so and hanging at the same length.

He is, however, physically abusive. Somehow, at some point Julia manages to escape and in her new life relishes the disorder of her perhaps purposefully messy cabinets, occasionally checking them to assure herself she is far from him and his tyrannical control. I almost laughed out loud when I saw the supreme order of his cabinets (there are other people who line up cans, labels facing forwards??) and conversely found myself wincing at the sight of the chaos behind her closed doors.

Well, today I met a couple of ladies from Cardiostart, http://www.cardiostart.org/ a charity I learned about through www.volunteermatch.com.  Help was being sought to stock items in a warehouse and then prepare them for shipment to developing countries for medical mission trips.

When I saw their small warehouse, I tried to contain my gasp of ....what's a suitable word here for an OF?  In the absence of said suitable word, and after the initial appropriately muffled gasp, I almost started salivating. OMG, where's my label maker? Containers? The person who can even identify for me what half of these supplies are?

I don't have a medical background at all, however, even I can recognize tape,... but why are there so many different types? What do they do and what is this thingymajigger over here? And what would you use this for? I kept my questions underwraps, but clearly these two ladies were delighted that they'd found such a curious specimen as I....someone who was clearly excited about taming this elephant sized chaos, when most would just love to shut the door and pretend it didn't exist.

Being such a curious cat (about everything, truth be told...I never run out of questions), I can't wait to find out what all this stuff is used for, then I'll have a better idea of how to organize it all - and feel much cleverer for expanding my vocabulary with all these new nouns. I am going to take pics with my cell phone and 'tag' the items (of course, I have to learn how to do that first).....oh the fun I'll have....
