29-Day Giving Challenge

This is my fourth day of this beautiful challenge. I have been asking Spirit each day what to give and to whom. I was driving down the street and what came to me was to gift my granddaughter with the gift of "releasing her from any responsibility of making me happy." May I explain. She is 20 years old, a single mother of 3 babies under the age of 3. Our relationship is very strained right now, and I've been totally blown away by it. Without going into the details, I realized that I've been waiting for her to make some changes and "come around" before I gave myself permission to have serenity and peace of mind. I also "got" that by holding people responsible for our happiness, we burden them and relieve ourselves of that prescious responsibility. And at the same time we make ourselves responsible for their behavior, happiness etc. etc. It is a co-dependant mess to say the least. So that is my gift giving today. As I gift my granddaughter with this precious gift I gift myself as well.
Namaste

Thank you Tbird. It is a journey for sure. Detaching is a wonderful gift to give myself and another person. It goes all the way to the core. For me it has to do with trusting a power greater than myself to handle things. I may not fully trust the individual but I can trust that their journey is THEIRS and their higher power will help them. That relieves me to take care of myself and my own issues. Focusing on someone elses issues just distracts me from dealing with my own issues. Have a wonderful journey

I like that!! My daughter is 24 and making bad choices. I am trying to let go the issue and be supportive. When I was in grammar school a friend of mines mother said " I will always love you, but I don't always like what you're doing". This was said to my friends older sister. I still remember it. Good job and happy release.

What is amazing is that I have not picked this up again. When I released it, it has stayed gone. So I thank Spirit for that shift.

Jackie, what a beautiful gift for you and for your granddaughter. To let go of expectations is hard, but does free all.
WOW!!!

You are welcome. Part of me wishes everyday could be as rewarding and insightful as my fourth day. That is life though. Sometimes just being here and grateful and still is what it is.

I think these sort of gifts are the most challenging but also can be the most rewarding. Thanks for sharing your insights - it helps us all.

Today begins my seven day of this gift challenge. I have no idea what or to whom I will give. I'm just open and receptive; trusting Spirit to let me know. This is an amazing journey and I thank all of you for your comments and support. I support you as well.

You are very insightful. I think it is very difficult to step back and not keep a wall growing between you due to a strained relationship. I wish you the best in your family!

This is a wonderful way to look at things. I too have a strained relationship, but with my daughter. I guess I have to step back and let her live her life. Thank you for your story. Blessings!
