Today gave me the opportunity to finally give a gift I've been meaning to give for several months now. My cousin spent the beginning of this school year living with his father, a man who is not always kind. After much disagreement, my cousin decided to move back in with his mom and brother. I know being apart was difficult for them, but I am so proud of my cousin for following his heart and really trying to live with his father before deciding that it was not the right choice for him. This is something that can be difficult at any age, but is particularly difficult during high school.
Their money is tight, and I want them to be able to go out together as a family, just the three of them. I am sending them a gift certificate for the Olive Garden and prayers for a meaningful family evening.
Any time I start something new or begin to explore another path in my life, I am greeted with a number of encouraging "signs" throughout my life. Today, as I read through a book on budgeting and finance, a number of chapters jumped out at me about the importance of giving, not just money, but our gifts as well. It is encouraging to know that people in all professions believe in this type of giving.
I leave you with the fortune from my Yogi Bedtime tea: "You will feel fulfilled when you do the impossible for someone else."
