Tonight I baked some brownies and made them heart-shaped for my friends. (and saved the trimmings for me! Yum!) I used my favorite recipe on the back of the Baker's chocolate box: One-bowl Brownies. I had 2 heart-shaped brownies leftover, so I made up two bags for homeless people with a brownie, a dollar, some trail mix and a Valentine.
The gift I received tonight was that my dog Bonsai was almost hit by a car on our walk. I ran out into the middle of the road in pitch black and somehow found him and snatched him up just in time. (he had chased a cat) I will never walk him without a leash again.

Comment by M on February 10, 2012 at 6:35pm Awww, thanks GF! And thank you all for your sweet comments. I actually pulled a muscle in my back when I rescued Bonsai, so I am hurting today! But it is worth it, of course! I am so grateful he's alive.
Comment by Give a little ~ GALfriend on February 10, 2012 at 6:29pm Hey, that's where my cape went!....Phew, close call girlfriend - but he's home safe and sound now and so glad to hear it!...And on to the fun stuff....
I can't believe I never had the incredibly simple idea of using my cookie cutters to make shapes out of brownies! What a lovely gift for all your recipents...well, that, doubled by the fact that you made them from scratch (I had totally erased from my memory that I used to use the same recipe, (my all-time fave) in another lifetime....I've been using boxes for so long, I'd forgotten how good they were. I've missed your blogs and source of my inspiration. Glad you're back. Love GF
Comment by Dawn wwt on February 10, 2012 at 6:31am OMG! i am so glad that you and Bonsai are okay! it is so scary when you have a close call like that...we had a coyote almost get one of ours right in our yard in broad daylight. i know Bonsai is your baby and partner in crime, give him a big hug for me. and yourself too. Oh! and the brownies were a yummy gift! Hugs, Dawn
Oh my. Please be safe. We love you and Bonsai~
Comment by Marina Wildt on February 10, 2012 at 3:59am I am so sorry that you had to have that experience with you little dog, I had a similar experience with mine, he ran outside the gate and it started closing electrically and he didn't get back into the house on time so he got caught in the closing gate. I have never had my heart jump so high up my throat so fast! So I totally understand, I hope he is ok now, and feeling a little less shaky, as I hope you are. I suggest both of you eat one of those delicious sounding brownies!
OH, what a heart-stopping moment,M!!! That could have been so dangerous for both of you!! You have a heart of gold for thinking of the homeless, but please go in daylight.......!!
Comment by Miss_D on February 10, 2012 at 2:31am What a stunning idea. I really hope you dont mind that I steal it and use it for the homeless people in my area?
I'm so happy that Bonsai is safe and sound.....what a cutie he is! The brownies sound yummy and are very thoughtful gifts. :)
I am so glad that Bonsai (and you) are safe! I love your gift to the homeless. Blessings and Joy to you!
