29-Day Giving Challenge

At a grocery store the man ahead of me was using food bank vouchers, and I paid the balance so he wouldn't have to cash the second one in. It was only a few dollars but it meant he can use his second voucher another time.

A friend of mine is a foster mom and she was doing foster relief for a child in another foster home. The child was arriving Christmas day and staying for a month. I took a Christmas search and find book, several polly pocket sets and a game so that she would feel welcome and have something to play with while she was there.

I went to a private care home for people with severe mental illness who can not live independently. I gave the administrator a willow tree angel. When I was leaving I recognized a man weathered by hard times, with a vacant look in his face. I remembered he had approached me for money a few weeks earlier but I didn't have any on me at the time. I called out to him...and asked his name. I said that I remembered him and had a little something for him... I gave him five dollars. His face lit up, and looked me right in the eye and said really? His smile, was so genuine it makes me smile when I think of it. I said Merry Christmas. He walked with a little spring in his step and so did I.

I am sure there is more but I am short on time this morning.

Merry Christmas all!

Thanks so much everyone!

The last "give" really touched me. An insignificant amount of money brightened up that man's world, if for just a moment. What had the biggest impact on me was the way his tired face lit up when he smiled. He looked at me, instead of through me. I don't even know if I can express the magic in that tiny exchange.

Thank you all for letting me share the moment...
