I started my giving prior to even seeing the website and the book. I was standing in line waiting to order my beverage when I came across an article briefly describing Cami's book and how it came about. I loved it. I loved the concept and what kind of impact I could have on another persons day. I thought to myself right then, "why not do the same thing" As the clerk handed me my change I said "please keep it and use it to pay for the next persons drink". The girl paused briefly before agreeing to do so then smiled and said "that is awful nice of you". I thanked her and left the store.
As I walked back to work, I began to imagine what it would be like for the "recipient" and wondered if they would pay it forward. That small gift, the act of, left me feeling wonderful all day resulting in me smiling, chatting and enjoying each moment more fully.
Day two and three brought more of the same, despite the relatively insignificant gifts (spare change to a man rummaging through a garbage can looking for cans and bottles and a $2 lottery ticket for someone who shared with me what they would do and the difference they would make in the lives of many if they were to win a lot of money).
What was even better was that my bank teller had witnessed one of my acts of giving and asked me what that was all about. I shared with her Cami's book and what impacts it has had. I shared with her my intention of the "29 Day Gift Challenge" and asked her to join me on this journey.
Imagine a world where the act of giving and receiving flowed as easily as the wind blew and the birds sang. I imagine that in taking on this challenge we are all doing our small part.
I look forward to day four...
