29-Day Giving Challenge

My teen-age daughter is in a therapeutic boarding school, recovering from a very self-destructive spiral of behavior. I don't get to spend time with her very often but on a recent visit I brought her the "29 Gifts" book to read. By the end of my 3-day visit she had read 1/2 the book and decided she was going to get on board with the challenge. It will be interesting to see how taking the focus off her own issues and giving to others will affect her. I'm sure she will pass it on to others at the school as well, so the good will just keep on going....in a place where it is really needed!

Barbara,
My daughter also had been in a self destructive spiral of behavior. Not to be nosy, but what was your daughter diagnosed with? My daughter has borderline personality disorder . . she was at McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA for 6 weeks for the intensive residential DBT program. It did wonders for her . . if by chance your daughter has borderline personality disorder, I would HIGHLY recommend this program. Anyway, I totally know what you're going through . . there's a lot of pain . . .and hope. I sincerely hope all works out for you and your daughter. You will be in my prayers.

You have obviously learned the lesson to give without expectations, good for you (and everyone in your life). It can be quite a challenge to share important meaningful things with your children, you just never know how they will react...

it's so great that your daughter accepted your gift and was excited about it! a lot of the time ( at least with my kids) teens won't have anything to do with things that their parents suggest. it will be a positive thing for her and all those around her. i hope that the issues that brought her to the school are resolved soon and your family is reunited. Hugs, Dawn

Sounds like your daughter really got into the book - that's a great blessing to receive when you are young. I hope things continue to improve for both of you.
