New Beginnings: Day 5

Today I donated my time to a local organization to help them set up a National Convention they are hosting in the Tacoma area in 2014.  They requested my help because I have experience in negotiating contracts and planning large meetings. People were nervous and tempers were a little short at times because this a HUGE undertaking for a relatively small group and time is very short.  (Although the convention is a year and a half away, in terms of planning it may as well be tomorrow morning.) I did my very best to be calm and encouraging. 

While there, I was able to persuade them to set up various activities where the participants could provide help, encouragement and joy to the community. I also brainstormed with them ways that we can involve the youth of the community in positive, enriching ways. I committed to helping organize these activities and to be the contact person for all community outreach programs for this organization in the forseeable future. 

I think we mad a lot of progress today and I am excited that this group sees the importance of "giving back" to a community who has given us all so much.
