29-Day Giving Challenge

I read in a book today that according to scientists the average person (and that means most of us) only uses 10% of our brain capacity! Whilst I did kind of vaguely know this somehow today it hit a chord. The year is coming to an end and we have the prospect of a new year looming ahead. I have decided today to consciously broaden my horizons and therefore expand the use the of my brain. I am giving myself a gift today and I am sharing it with anyone who reads my blog too. I am going to do some of the following in 2009:
Attend a lecture/talk that focuses on another race or culture
Visit an Art gallery
Research a Country I have never visited and make plans to visit
Try new recipes and foods never tried before
Attend a car exhibition
Attend a racecourse

Let me know your ideas - its good to share

My gift today was to spend some time in conversation with a friend who lives alone. She wanted some advice on things to purchase to freshen up her home. It was great and left me smiling when I got off the phone. Time is such a precious commodity and not to be underrated.

Tthe intention of your post is great, although each person might pick different ways to stretch. This past year I found the wonderful world of teleseminars! These are often free too. They teach a subject or introduce a concept, there are all kinds. Schools use it to teach classes, not for free of course. I mention this because it would fit into the first item on your list and be easy to access from the comfort of your home. I was so moved by the value of teleseminars, I now offer them in my field of creative arts for free, 2 interviews with women in the arts and business each month. It's a win-win for everyone and people listen to the recordings from all over the globe.

Alison, I like your reminder that we need to broaden our minds. Will have to think about how I will do that!

How about learning a new language? The revolutionary Michel Thomas CDs can teach you the rudiments of many European language in a totally different way. You can pick them up on Ebay cheap ---even cheaper if you still have a tape machine. Honestly, I did the French course and I felt so fabulous just after one lesson. People think I'm on salary when I enthuse about him!! Your ambitions this year sound like total FUN!! Best of luck
