What a doozie...
Today I gave 2 pizzas to my coworkers, who all missed lunch due to an emergency c-section and subsequent multiple-puppy CPR. See, while the doctor does the emergency surgery, he passes off puppies one by one to the nurses (aka veterinary technicians*) as soon as they are out, and the nurses begin itty bitty CPR and a fast rubbing motion as well as constant warmth because the anesthesia stops the puppies from breathing in utero. It's an incredibly stressful and fast-paced process. (Not to mention these puppies were bichon frise/poodle mixes - about the size of an Italian sausage!) The girls were able to save the 3 of the 4 live puppies (a fifth was DOA after the stupid breeder let it remain stuck in the birth canal for hours!) *sigh* Anyway, so I ordered them pizza because they didn't get a moment's break before we started afternoon appointments. (How did this make my day a doozie, you may wonder? Well, because while they were running around saving puppies, I was running around answering 3 incoming phone lines and dealing with all the clients up front by myself. Craziness for everyone today!) Anyway, I ordered the pizzas with absolutely no thought of reimbursement, though my boss insisted on paying me back. So that was kinda nice. As much as I hated my job yesterday...I won't say I loved it today, but I did have more respect for it.
*My boss refers to our certified/registered/licensed veterinary technicians as nurses. He says "What you guys do is nursing. Technicians change your oil."
Before I returned from lunch and found out about the c-section dog, I grabbed a couple of bananas as a snack for Jenn and I. Ended up giving her both, because she is on Weight Watchers and didn't want pizza. I also gave her a hug at the end of the day, just 'cause I was pretty sure she needed one. And I told all my coworkers that they totally kicked ass. They really really did.
What else...
Went to WalMart to get a couple of things after work. There was a shirt someone had knocked off the hanger. I started to walk past it and then decided to just pick it up and put it where it belonged. Sounds lame probably, but it's one less thing for someone else to do, right?
Also called my mother. It was a good conversation (I think), though I am still at a loss as to where she's headed. Here's hoping it's somewhere happy and healthy, but I'm not holding my breath.
I was supposed to go watch Lost with B tonight, but he's working 'til 9 and unless I keep going and push myself to stay busy, I will not make it that late. So...tomorrow I hope.
Tonight I think I will spend some time with my dawg. Hope everyone had a good day.
