This morning, before I even got out of bed (this is what having an iPhone does), I had an email from a woman who had looked through my Freecycle photo album and picked out three items - ones I hadn't even gotten around to officially posting on the list. I called her, and we talked. I asked if she wanted/needed anything else; I wound up giving her a crockpot I bought 2 years ago that turned out to be waaaay too big (8.5 quarts/litres) for single me. I also told her about the Challenge and emailed her the link to the site. I think that's one of my side goals for this round, to get people locally interested in the Challenge :)
I'd thought about selling it, but I doubt I'd get $20 for it (almost nobody uses Craigslist in this town...except, apparently, Nigerian bankers and elderly widows who can't access their late husbands' fortunes from overseas). Plus, I'd rather give it to someone who could benefit from it.
So this was a super-easy giving day! I had a migraine most of the day, which I was able to more or less control (but not vanquish) with meds, but it made for a fuzzy-thinking, stay-in-bed kind of day.
An update about the NOOK book (well, eGift + recommendation) I sent to a childhood friend: She posted on Facebook that she had goosebumps because it was such a perfect gift at the perfect time, for who she is and what she's going through. She kept it anonymous, which I appreciated, except to say we hadn't seen each other since she was in 7th grade. The note - the fact that the gift really resonated with her and helped her to feel "seen" and loved - brought tears to my eyes. While I enjoy stealth giving, I do love seeing the impact gifts have on the recipients, whether or not they know that I was the gifter. There are moments in this Challenge that I just want to fold up and tuck into my heart; this was one of those.
Hope you all had a good Sunday. Here's to a great week!
