All of my greatest ideas come to me in the shower. I am certain that were Edison alive today he'd say something like "I had just put the conditioner in my hair when it hit me, there might be a way to talk to my Great Aunt Ida in Boca, using this telegraph thing and this phonograph technology. I could even patent my invention, maybe give it a zippy name, like an itelephonograph."
So that's where I was today when at least one of my Day 14 gives hit me: random acts of cyber kindness. I have noticed lately that so many people will post something somewhat incendiary on Facebook (usually of the political nature) and that triggers a comment landslide/discussion/argument about "no, it's really my way" and "that's nice, but it's certainly my way." I admit to wading into the fray on some of those discussions, my beliefs or passions or interests getting the better of me in some cases. And I was also turning over the very disturbing and sad story I saw on the news this morning about the 15-year-old Massachusetts girl who committed suicide after undergoing intense school and cyber bullying. Cyber bullying. It's too ludicrous and cruel to wrap my head around. I was certainly the target of the mean girl contingent in grade school, but thankfully was able to move past it without too much harm (Though I do harbor secret fantasies of knocking on those mean girl doors with Oprah's camera crew behind me, how do you like me now, ladies? I'm friends with Oprah! Note to self: first, become friends with Oprah). It saddened and sickened me, and then it just suddenly clicked, what if we took a few minutes out of the day to schmear around a little goodness on the ole interweb.
I went to my Facebook and chose a bunch of somewhat random people in my friends list and I posted something personal and kind on their wall, like about how they were doing a great job as a mom or about how they made me laugh in high school or just something as simple as telling them what a kind and good hear they have and how much I appreciated them. Then I followed it with this disclaimer: "This is a random act of Cyber Kindness. Post something kind, funny, cheerful, or positive on someone's wall and give their day a boost!"
I really couldn't wait to get out of the shower and put my cyber gives into circulation, which is how you know you've become energized around an idea. When you don't even stop to exfoliate, that's some serious good happening right there.
And so that little idea is also my gift to this community. I have gained such insight and appreciation for all the ways that people are choosing to give from this site, that I'm happy to share an idea and give a little back.
Enjoy your day all! And you never know, maybe something funny and positive will be waiting for you on your facebook page :)
Namaste!
