29-Day Giving Challenge

I was reminded this weekend that we give not only on the physical plane, but also in the mental plane through our thoughts. We send out energy through our thoughts in every moment, and we can chose to be mindful of those thoughts. Do I chose to send out judgment and frustration or do I chose to send out thoughts of love and encouragement to others?

Today I caught myself as people in the parking lot at the store were all in a hurry and didn't want to let me cross to the door. I found myself getting grumpy and judgmental. However, observing our thoughts on a regular basis allows us to intervene and change the tone. I chose to turn my thoughts to compassion, considering that people felt hurried and stressed due to any number of reasons. I then sent them compassion and encouragement through my thoughts, smiling, waiting patiently and sending them love to help turn their day around. I hope that it made a positive difference for someone; I know I felt better.

I once heard a story at a conference that seems fitting to retell here. It was shared by someone who had a near death experience. She was in a car accident and left her body; during the in between space, she rose above the cars and could hear all the thoughts from people backed up in traffic behind her....most were complaining that they didn't want to be late to wherever they were going, but one woman's thoughts stood out and she heard this woman praying for her well being. This one person's positive encouragement helped wake her to the situation and she returned to her body and survived.

You are so right Yogini about putting our thoughts out there. Our thoughts create our reality. Thank you for the story of the lady who had the near death experience. Those stories always fascinate me. Being in the health care field, I have heard several first hand experiences and they give me something to think about.

What an awesome story & consider it your gift to me! One of the things I am working on is mindfulness practice. I am having lots of experiences especially when behind the wheel. I am very impatient & have been trying to recognize the impatient thoughts sooner & turn them into compassionate thoughts for whoever is in traffic with me. I will definitely remember this story about the woman hearing the prayers, & choose different thoughts/prayers. Thanks 4 this message. I heard it!
