29-Day Giving Challenge

I have to start over.  I really don't know why, but Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were just icky days.  Maybe I'm just ready for a break as much as the kids are.  After Literacy Night on Tuesday, the other science teacher, Mrs. Mike, was picked on by the other teachers all week.  It seems that whenever a couple teachers go above and beyond, the others feel threatened.  Some of them have been calling Mrs. Mike names for days.  It makes me so angry!  We're teachers!  We should ALL be doing our absolute best for the kids, and we should all be encouraging the best in our colleagues!  Uggh!

Also, with the 9-week grading period ending on this coming Friday, I've told my students for weeks that all late work and make up work is due this past Friday.  I have so many students who have so many zeros because they just haven't turned their work in.  It's so discouraging!  I'm so worried that my class is way too easy, but I'm having so much trouble motivating some of these kids to do anything.  I've got one little boy who just refuses to pick up a pencil unless I'm sitting next to him and putting it in his hand!

Okay.  Enough venting.  I'm starting over today.  Let's see how this goes!

Thank you everyone for your kind words and support!

it is SO discouraging when the very people who are supposed to be teaching the children how to behave act like that. i don't blame you for being angry. sounds to me like some may have gotten comfortable doing just enough to get by and don't want anyone raising the bar, so sad :o(  i hope things get better very soon. Hugs, Dawn

Good luck on your re-start.  Don't worry and it will all work out.  I know how frustrating it is when you see people talk about other co-workers behind their backs.  I see at work all the time and it makes me upset.  It's not the way we should act.  It's high school crap all over again and as adults we should know better.  I was reading the 29 gifts for teens book here on the site and I saw this I think it pertains to your situation at school but with the teachers not the kids " Teens who took the challenge chose not to join in gossip, they often stood up for someone being ridiculed, or changed the subject when rumors were being spread.
Kids who took the challenge tried to “nip gossip in the bud”. Take Courtney for example, when the girls at her lunch table were trashing a “geeky” girl in their class, she quickly changed the topic of conversation to weekend plans. “I felt relieved not talking about her”, Courtney says. She added that she hoped her other friends would follow her lead and stop picking on other girls in the class. Some chose to reject joining in gossip or changing the subject when others were gossiping. Sometimes, the kindest word is the unkind word, unsaid."

Maybe that might give you some direction to help the teacher out that is being talked about by the other teachers.  Good luck.

It is so unfortunate that people cannot be kind to one another. Your school is blessed to have you, a loving, concerned teacher helping students learn. I'm sure that Mrs. Mike appreciates your friendship and support. Please don't be too hard on yourself, you are giving more than you realize. Your dedication to your students and coworker are wonderful gifts. Hang in there and take care. :)

Bless you for hanging in there and all you do. It is a shame this is happening...

My heart is with you, Honey...you have many challenges going on. That is awful to have that going on with the teachers, that is bullying and very low!! I wish you the best and will pray things get better for the kids and for you and the teacher. Take care...
