It's not what I consider the most exciting way to give, but started to thoroughly clean the house. My goal is to have the home done by the time that the "official" school season starts. Even though I've started homeschooling the girls now during the summer, the traditional fall activities start in September and I'd like to have everything in place by then.
Started by doing laundry - at home for the couch covers, throw blankets that go on the couches, and sheets and blankets in the master bedroom. Brought 3 large bedding items to the dry cleaner since they don't fit into my washer (I feel like it is the "Easy-Bake-Oven"-version of a real washing machine (it fits in small areas and the washing capacity is very limited).
Vacuumed most of the upstairs of the house.
In addition to cleaning, I want to take out all the items that we no longer use and either sell them on a garage sale (with prices all under $1.00) and/or give them away.
I'd like to be able to use the money from the garage sale to purchase two miniature horses. I've seen miniature horses being used as therapeutic animals with people who have Alzheimer's Disease, who are seniors, and those with other mental/physical challenges. There is no place currently in Minnesota that does this. However, since my father is in the middle stage of Alzheimer's Disease as well as both my daughters having Sensory Integration Dysfunction (among other special needs), I could begin seeing the impact that the horses would have on others and create a program that would help others.
We have the space and barn to do this, and both my daughters have participated in therapeutic horseback riding programs (different than what I want to do, but this has developed a love for horses in both of them). Now, it is just a matter of bringing this dream to reality!
